Leaving On A Jet Plane

So as promised I would let you all know when I am off to Afghanistan for my 6 month tour of duty. That time is now upon us, as from tomorrow I will be on a plane going to that Very Hot and Sunny Place.

I must also apologise for my lack of post's, this has been because as you might understand I have spent a lot of time with friend's and family before I depart, so this has not left a lot of time for hobby. But you will all be glad to know that I have done a little bit today and yesterday.

But before I get to that, I will let you know my wife has access to my Blog so that she can do post's as in how I am doing, also to let you know when I will be coming home on R+R, and also when I finish my tour.

Also I have put on hold for the time being the big Praetorian Apocalypse game organisation until I return, unless some one else would like to take up the mantle. If not don't panic I will thrust myself into this epic project.

So after all that what have I been up to I hear you cry? Well I have finished on more of my objectives, and the one I finished is of the fallen standard. I really wanted to get this one done as I liked the idea I had thought up, so I went to work. Before I went on my holiday to Wales I had done the sculpt of the flag and left it to dry with a spray of Primer.

I decided that it would be a platoon standard rather than a Company, so I painted the crest on top of the pole Silver, the flag was painted in my custom Red and White which was quite difficult to do. This was because of the shape of the flag and also making sure I had the Red and White going the right way. The Imperial Eagle is a transfer which again was very difficult to put in place due to the creases in the flag, and also making sure the transfer went in all the creases and laid flat. Last off was the weathering which was done with weathering powder's then given a coat of purity seal. I wanted the flag to look dirty as if it had fallen and the dust and mud from battle had gathered. I have not done it as if it was all shot up and torn as I felt it would spoil the effect that I was after. There you have it my fourth objective which I am very happy with, and looks really cool I think.

Well there you go that's it from me, and as always your comments are appreciated. Please keep popping back to my Blog even though it will be quite for 6 month's but I will return with a vengeance as I will have loads of time for painting.

Till October time keep safe, and I hope you all have a great 6 months of painting and gaming.

Have Decided On A Date

So as the title suggests I have decided on a date for our Apocalypse game. So I am going to go for the 11th to 13th of January. The reason for this is that it gives people 10 months for everyone to get their army done. Second it is a week after the first pay weekend so most of us should still have some fund's left. And the last is we can all have a good time at Christmas and have something to look forward to at the start of a new year.

So all I need is for everyone who is interested to drop me a line at my e-mail address, so I can give Warhammer World rough number's, plus I can get the venue booked plus start looking at prices. My e-mail address is clarkdavid@sky.com If we can get this bit done before I deploy that would be great, unless someone is willing to take it off my hand's while I am away on my Op Tour.

Thanks guy's all your help and comments are appreciated.

Going On Holiday

From tomorrow I am going away on holiday with my family before I deploy to Afghanistan. So to that end I will not be doing any hobby till next weekend, as I want to spend some quality time with my loved ones. I am still taking my laptop so that I can stay in touch with my Blog and with what is happening.

Also guy's if I can get some answer's on who will be possibly attending our epic game, I can start looking at price's, plus to see if there will be a cost incurred for the tables at Warhammer World. I know it seems strange but from the game we played in January because we took up a third of the hall there was a small fee. But don't panic.

So till next week on the hobby front, have fun.

Date's For the Apocalypse Weekend.

Right guy's I have been thinking about this a lot now, to the point were my head is about ready to explode in a fiery ball of mess. First of the date's I have chosen are:

1) From 7th to 9th December 2012

2) From 14th to 16th December 2012

Now I have picked the first set of date's because it is the first weekend second weekend after pay day and gives all time to spend with our family's before we do one for the weekend, plus we still have some money left.

The second date I picked was because it was in the middle of the month also you still have just over a week before Christmas day, plus I would like to think we still have a little bit of money left.

All I need from you guy's is what date you prefer, and who is likely to come. Also it would be great if we could russel up some Ork player's. I have one that is interested with 25,000 point's worth of Ork's, but I want more because we really need to be out numbered but not to the point we die on the first turn.

Gol Garvis: I really appreciate all the effort you are putting in, and if we can track down this bit of board and borrow it that would be so awesome. Let us know how you get on.

A Few Hobby Thing's To Go Through.

Well with me putting the huge Apocalypse game that a few of us are planning to one side at the moment as I wait for a few answers from Warhammer World, and me looking at some date's. I got down to doing a little hobby.

First off I have finished my third objective marker, which was done the same as the other two. I moved onto doing the fallen Colour's objective, and the store's objective. At the moment I don't know how the banner is going to turn out but I will have to wait for it to dry. The banner was made out of green stuff and the white all over it is talking powder, which is used to stop it from sticking onto everything. The store's base was done by using some spare bit's I have knocking around that I purchased from Empress Miniatures awhile ago.

Second I thought I would take a picture of my Army in all it's glory in it's display cabinet. To be quite honest I am really pleased with how it is looking and how large it has got. Not bad for a project that has been going on now for about 5 year's. But wait till you see what I have left to do.

Third as mentioned above is a portion of what I have left to paint and build. Now trust me when I tell you that I have not layed everything out just for the sheer fact it would not all fit into on picture shoot. Needless to say I have a lot of troop's to get done, let me give you a breakdown of what I have to get done.

1) 2 Shadow Sword tanks.
2) 1 Vulture Gunship
3) 5 Chimera's
4) 3 Leman Russ Tanks
5) 1 Basilk
6) 1 Medusa Tank
7) 3 Hellhounds
8) 1 Sentinel
9) My Golden Daemon Entry
10) About 100 Troop's
11) About 30 Characters
12) 7 Ogryns
12) 1 Hydra
13) 6 x 3 teams of Heavy Weapons.
14) 1 squad of Snipers
15) 1 squad of Ratlin Snipers

So off the top of my head that is what I can think of at the moment, I did work out a few months ago once everything is painted I will have around 10,000 point's of Praetorian's. But when I get back from Afghan later this year, and with the amount of time I will have off I am planning of get through a few amount of this.

So as always thanks for looking and any comments you have are appreciated.

The Ball is Rolling Fluff.

Now after Col Ackland given me a link to a battle that happened during the Zulu Wars, and me coming across something that I printed some time ago. I think I have come up with a good bit of fluff for what could be a fantastic battle. What I will do is write below exactly how it's written, let you guy's have read and let me know what you think. Plus when I get a bit of time I can tweak the Regiments involved so that it works for us. So here it is:

When the 24th and 13th were deployed in the reconquest of Montaur VII, the Black Guard was sent in to retake Glazer's Creek; the site of a small victory in the final battle of Montar. The 13th mounted a full assault on the small Ork garrison. Disorganised and leaderless, the Orks stood no chance against the 13th's righteous fury.

The Black Guard soon set up a firebase and prepared for a counter-attack. While the main force lead by the 24th sack the central Ork village, the 13th prepared to be the anvil to crush the Orks upon. Driven towards the creek by Imperial forces, the Orks fought a fighting retreat. Lord Sherdan allowed the Imperial Guard to drive the Orks towards the Imperial outpost by the creek. The Orks couldn't let such a sweet target escape them: more, battle, more blood, more WAAAAAGGGHHH!!! The Orks amassed in a valley that ran beside the creek, divided by a low rise.

The Orks rushed over the hill screaming in their foul Orkish tongue. The first thing to surprise them was the heavy barrage of artillery. Still they kept coming, wanting to destroy the base and all the guardsmen there. A Speed Kult led the assault on the firebase, and soon they were working their way into the creek valley. At the same time from behind, an Imperial air strike forced the rear elements of the Ork Warband onwards into the Praetorian guns. Pressed into a box, the Orks fought onto the death.

The final element of the plan came into play when the 24th Praetorian led the counter-attack on the Ork remains from behind, while the 13th held them off. As the Orks were about to reach the firebase, the 13th's armour battalion rushed forward to challenge the Ork Speed Kult, and closed the trap. The Orks were smashed between the 24th's hammer and the 13th's anvil. This would finish the Orks dominion of Montar VII. Following this victory all that was left to do was to clean up the last remains of the Ork Waaagh!. The 13th was given this mission which took a few months to accomplish.

So there you have it guy's something we could really get to work. The two regiments named here we can change to our own. The only drama being mine as it is not a regiment but a Company, but I have made reference in my history going to support the 24th. Also the we can use the Rough Rider's we have in the armoured Battalion that is mentioned above.

Give me your thoughts guy's as to what you think, and if we can all decide on this then that's one less hurdle to jump. Also guy's we really do need to decide on a date as this will help massively but I am conscious of our fellow overseas friends when it is the cheapest and easiest time to come across.

The Ball Is Rolling

A couple of day's ago a few of my fellow Praetorian Bloggers planted a seed in my head by suggesting that when I get back from Afghanistan we do a huge Apocalypse game. The only thing being is that we use for the good side Praetorians only.

So to that end I have contacted the Whats New Today crew to see if they can help. The reply I got back was they are not sure how they can help, but they will talk to a few people and see what they can do. But they really like the idea as well, what I have suggested is that we could re-fight the battle of Big Toof River or Rorke's Drift. The only problem is that I can see at the moment is finding people with enough Ork's, but I am hoping this is maybe were Warhammer World will be able to help.

So I have been thinking about some dates and if we would do this as a one day thing or a weekend. Now I like the idea of a whole weekend due to the fact you don't have to set off stupid O Clock and leave stupid O Clock. Now if we do a weekend we could arrive Friday night say 8pm set up and get our heads down for the night at a hotel that's 5min's away. Now what I am thinking is I get back from Afghan mid October and go on leave soon after. Now my birthday is in November so I was thinking we could do 1st & 2nd of December as that is the weekend closest to my birthday. The only other time I can think of is January at some point. But this is were you guy's come in. I could really do with your help and decide when would be a good time to do it, and if you would want it to be a weekend or night.
